Still Looking for Reasons to Buy a Wii?

Wii FunAre you STILL on the fence about buying a Wii? Let me give you a few reasons why you should just go ahead and get one!

The Nintendo Wii isn’t your typical video gaming console where everyone just sits around and presses buttons and wiggles joysticks until their hands are sore. It truly does offer fun for the entire family. There are plenty of terrific games to choose from, and they are geared toward all ages and interests. Love the old classic games? You can download them from the Wii Shop Channel and play them using the Wii’s built-in Virtual Console that supports the older games. Still have some old GameCube games lying around? They are compatible with the Wii, so you don’t need to waste space keeping them both hooked up to your T.V.

Speaking of space, the Nintendo Wii is the smallest of all the video gaming consoles. It doesn’t take up much space, so you don’t have to re-arrange all the rest of your electronics to find a spot for it. But even though it’s small, it’s very well-constructed. And if you connect it to your WiFi signal, it will automatically download all the latest available system updates.

Is price a concern? The Wii’s retail price is substantially less than the PS3 and the XBox 360, and it actually comes with more built-in features. (Did you know that if you want to use your 360 with your wireless Internet connection, you need to cough up an extra $100 for the wireless network adapter? Ouch!)

And speaking of costs, I’m sure you’ve read all about how you can download your Wii games for free! If you haven’t, I’ve posted about it a lot… just take a look around the blog. (OK, here’s a link if you don’t want to spend time searching!)

So if you’ve been considering the purchase of a Wii, just do it! Once you have it up and running, you won’t be able to figure out why you waited so long.

Wii Virtual Console for All Your Favorite Classics!

Wii Virtual Console

We all have those old “classic” games that we miss, don’t we? You know, the original titles from the Super NES or the N64. Maybe we can still play new versions of them on our newer systems, but there was just nothing like the old original Donkey Kong or Super Mario Bros.

Well folks, get ready to Dig Dug away again, ’cause you can revisit many of those old games using the Wii’s Virtual Console feature! The Virtual Console, combined with the Wii Shop Channel, makes it possible to access lots of your favorite games for  NES, Super NES, N64, Sega Genesis, Sega Master System, and more! Ready to get started? Here’s an easy, step-by-step tutorial that will have you playing all your old games in no time!

  1. You will need some Wii Points to download your games. If you don’t currently have any, you can either purchase a Wii Points card from your local video game store or you can use your credit card to buy them on the Wii Shop Channel.
  2. Make sure your Wii can connect to the Internet. If you need help making that happen, you can take a look at my previous article on Wi-Fi for the Wii.
  3. Once you are at the Wii Menu, choose the Wii Shop Channel.
  4. Go to the Virtual Console area and choose the game you would like to download.
  5. Once your download has completed, your new (old!) game will show up in a new channel on your Wii Menu. Click this channel and you’re all ready to get a blast from your past!

The Wii Virtual Console… just one more of the features that make the Wii the best gaming console on the market today. If you haven’t tried it yet, you’re missing out!

Nintendo Wii: It’s Not Just for Playing Video Games!

The number one reason people buy a Nintendo Wii is so that they can play all the great games that are available for it. But did you know that there are lots of other things you can do with your Wii in addition to playing games? Here’s a list to get you started!

  1. Use your Wii to access the Internet. You can do this via your Wiimote or you can purchase a keyboard to plug into the Wii’s USB port. The Wii Internet Channel will also allow you to play games such as Animal Crossing or Guitar Hero interactively with your online friends.
  2. Have fun with your Mii. Many people have customized their Mii into an almost perfect reflection of their appearance. Or they have downloaded special Mii features such as superheroes or animals. Did you know that Nintendo sponsors Mii contests? It is also possible to transfer your Mii from your Wiimote to your computer to use as avatars for online forums or in your favorite graphics program.
  3. Work out with your Wii. There are plenty of Wii games that will help you get in shape and get your body moving. You can participate in sports such as track, basketball, and boxing. You can also do strength training and yoga. You’ll be having so much fun, that you may even forget that you’re actually exercising!
  4. Use your Wii for a media center. Did you know that you can use your Wii to watch movies and TV shows and listen to music? Your Wii can become the central media center for the entire family!
